Welcome to the Beating Heart of the Risorgimento
The Garibaldi Museum of Genoa, located in the Quarto district, inside the magnificent Villa Spinola (today Villa Garibaldi), was the actual headquarters where Giuseppe Garibaldi, together with his men, planned the crucial phases of the Expedition of the Thousand. Here, the Hero of Two Worlds spent the night before the historic departure.
An Iconic Place: Villa Spinola
The 17th-century villa, owned by friend and comrade-in-arms Candido Augusto Vecchi, was made fully available to Garibaldi. Its rooms, with splendid frescoed ceilings, became the operational center of the expedition. Today, the museum occupies two of these rooms, preserving the atmosphere of those feverish days intact. The building is managed by the National Association of Combatants and Veterans, which preserves its historical memory.
